T he new Law of Ukraine on promotion of biofuels
The Law of Ukraine "On ammendments to several legal acts of Ukraine on promotion of production and usage of biofuels" was adopted by the Parliament on May 21, 2009 and signed by the President of Ukraine on June 16, 2009.
The main features of the Law are:
Ukraine due to the lack of the State support, thus creating favourable conditions for development of the biofuels sector.

The main features of the Law are:
- it establishes the legal frameworks for biofuels market;
- it opens the possibilities for private companies to produce bioethanol in Ukraine (as before only state-owned companies were allowed to produce bioethanol);
- it introduces a system of strong incentives and privileges for biofuels producers (income tax exemption for producers of biofuels and relevant equipment manufacturers; 0% excise duty; import duty exemption for biofuels equipment);
- it provides for increasing a share of biofuels consumption by 20% before 2020;
- it envisages obligatory certification of liquid biofuels and licensing its production process.
